VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT- ONE YEAR CONTRACT EMPLOYMENT

On behalf of the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), Public Service Recruitment Secretariat invites qualified Tanzanians to fill nineteen (19) vacant posts as mentioned below;
1.0 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH AUTHORITY (OSHA)
Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) is a Government Agency established under the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997 with the main objective of promotion of a Safe and Healthy working environment as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 5 of 2003.
The Agency is mandated to perform its functions in Tanzania mainland. Currently, OSHA has six (6) administrative zones namely Northern Zone, Lake Zone, Southern Highlands Zone, Central Zone, Southern Zone, and Coast Zone.
1.0.1 MEDICAL OFFICER II – 3 POSTS
1.0.2 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To carry out general walkthrough workplace inspections for the purpose of the establishment of compliance status;
ii. To carry out Fitness to work medical examinations and recommend remedially
measures for identified problems;
iii. To provide inputs in the preparation of the Business plan, Strategic plan, and other policy formulation in relation to medical issues;
iv. To prepare and submit reports timely;
v. To prepare articles and manuals on Occupational Health;
vi. To maintain records and provide written and verbal reports as required;
vii. To prepare OHS medical surveillance reports;
viii. To plan and implement specific occupational health programmes;
ix. To keep records of Inspections;
x. To provide input for occupational health surveys and researches;
xi. To interpret scientific data collected during investigations and recommend
appropriate control methods;
xii. To conduct follow up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been
implemented;
xiii. To review documents from the workplace;
xiv. To assist in the carrying out of statutory medical examination (Pre-
employment, periodic, exit and special);
xv. To provide counselling on health issues, polysubstance abuse;
xvi. To assist/facilitate OHS training;
xvii. To carry out health impact assessment;
xviii. To carry out occupational health surveys and researches;
xix. To review existing and current Occupational safety and health literature; and
xx. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned a Supervisor.
1.0.3 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Doctor of Medicine degree from a recognized Institution plus successful completion of internship period of one year and a provisional registration as a Medical Officer from Tanganyika Medical Council.
1.0.4 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 5
1.0.5 NURSING OFFICER II – 3 POSTS
1.0.6 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To carry out general walkthrough workplace inspections for the purpose of the

1.0.7 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Bachelor Degree in Nursing, Midwifery or its equivalent from a recognized
institution plus successful completion of the internship.
Must be registered with Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council.
1.0.8 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 5
1.0.9 OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE INSPECTOR II – 5 POSTS
1.0.10 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To prepare articles and manuals on occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics safety;
ii. To provide inputs in the preparation of the Business plan, Strategic plan and other
policy formulation in relation to Occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics Safety;
iii. To prepare and submit reports timely;
iv. To carry out general walkthrough workplace inspections for the purpose of the
establishment of compliance status;
v. To carry out specific Occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics inspections and
recommend remedial measures for identified problems;
vi. To carry out work environment measurements (Thermal stress, noise, light, dust,
gases, fumes, aerosol, mist, vapour, radiation, indoor air quality, ventilation,
efficiency etc.);
vii. To facilitate Occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics training to workers and
management;
viii. To operate and maintain work environment measuring equipment;
ix. To provide input for and Occupational Hygiene and Ergonomics surveys and
researches;
x. To recognize, evaluate and control workplace hazards;
xi. To provide input to Public Relations Office on Occupational Hygiene and
Ergonomics issues to be delivered to media, Government agencies, workers and
management;
xii. To interpret scientific data collected during investigations and recommend
appropriate control methods;
xiii. To operate technical equipment for obtaining samples;
xiv. To conduct follow up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been
implemented;
xv. To review relevant documents from the workplace;
xvi. To review existing and current Occupational safety and health literature; and
xvii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by a supervisor.
1.0.11 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Bachelor Degree either in Environmental Health Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Occupational and Environmental Health or equivalent from a recognized institution.
1.0.12 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 5
1.0.13 ASSISTANT STATISTICIAN – 2 POSTS
1.0.14 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To assist in collecting and systematically compiling data on Agency activities, e.g.
Information on workplaces, accident investigation, registration etc;
ii. To assist in collecting data and information to be used as inputs to the budgeting
process;
iii. To assist in preparing profiles and bring together available statistics on the activities and resources of each Department;
iv. To assist in preparing basic statistical and management reports;
v. Performs any other related duties as assigned;
vi. To interpret scientific data collected during investigations and recommend
appropriate control methods;
vii. To operate technical equipment for obtaining samples;
viii. To conduct follow up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been
implemented;
ix. To review relevant documents from the workplace;
x. To review existing and current Occupational safety and health literature; and
xi. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by a supervisor.
1.0.15 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Ordinary Diploma either in Statistics, Mathematics, Biometry, Biostatistics or equivalent qualifications from recognized Institution.
1.0.16 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 3
1.0.17 RECORDS MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT II – 2 POSTS
1.0.18 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To assist in receiving and recording all incoming mails;
ii. To receive correspondence and files sent by dispatch book;
iii. To sort outgoing and incoming correspondence in accordance with instructions or
established means of dispatch and checks date and signature;
iv. To Receive and distribute files to scheduled officers;
v. To Classify and file documents;
vi. To Open file and index cards;
vii. To handle issues regarding the request of files;
viii. To Maintain up to date register of office files and file index box;
ix. To receive and distribute official publications according to standing Instructions;
x. To record all outgoing registered correspondence and telegrams;
xi. To maintain a register of files sent out to or received from departments to assemble flimsy copies and file them for circulation to listed Officers;
xii. To re-address mail and answer questions on dispatch, postage and postal
procedures and regulations; and
xiii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned.
1.0.19 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Form IV or VI Certificate plus Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Records Management, Archives or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
1.0.20 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 2
1.0.21 ASSISTANT ACCOUNTS OFFICER – 3 POSTS
1.0.22 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To receive and keep in safe custody all bills, invoices, and other claims pending
payment;
ii. To maintain cash register;
iii. To prepare petty cash payment voucher;
iv. To keep in custody all accounts documents;
v. To prepare monthly income and expenditure statements;
vi. To carry out postings of the general ledger up to trial balance;
vii. To prepare payroll returns;
viii. To reconcile the actual amount of cash received with receipt book totals;
ix. To keep in safe custody all money received under lock and key and ensure daily banking;
x. To maintain adequate and accurate records of cheques received;
xi. To Make bank reconciliation;
xii. To prepare monthly payroll and disbursement of salaries;
xiii. To prepare returns of Pension Fund and other regulatory bodies;
xiv. To maintain subsidiary records including staff advances, loans and staff imprest;
xv. To Examine and verify accounting documents and all supporting documents
attached to vouchers; and
xvi. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned.
1.0.23 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of Ordinary Diploma (NTA 6) either in Accountancy, Finance, Business
Administration (Majoring in Accounting), ATEC II or equivalent qualifications recognized by NBAA from recognised Institutions.
1.0.24 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 3.
1.0.25 QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER II – 1 POST
1.0.26 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To fill the application forms;
ii. To verify applicant’s information on the forms and attachments before data entry;
iii. To perform data entry and data capture;
iv. To prepare registration reports;
v. To request and sort registration materials;
vi. To scan applicant’s documents;
vii. To ensure if the applicants are registered in the resident register book;
viii. To attend to customer’s enquires;
ix. To ensure all registration materials are available at the registration centre;
x. To verify applicants’ information before issuing certificate;
xi. To manage application forms, Mobile Enrolment Units and other office machines
and equipment;
xii. To prepare the proper working environment for Registration;
xiii. To determine, negotiate and agree on in-house occupational safety and health
quality procedures, standards and specifications;
xiv. To set customer service occupational safety and health standards;
xv. To specify quality requirements of occupational safety and health scientific
equipment with suppliers;
xvi. To assess customer occupational safety and health requirements and ensure
that are met; and
xvii. To perform any other related duties as may be directed by the Supervisor.
1.0.27 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor Degree either in Law, Industrial Relations, Economics, Statistics, Public
Administration, Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent
qualification from recognized institutions.
1.0.28 SALARY SCALE: OSHA Scale 4.
