The World Bank has issued a statement saying it supports the Government of Tanzania’s decision to allow pregnant students to return to school and said it will work with Tanzania to improve education for social and economic development.

The World Bank statement follows Minister of Education, Science and Technology Professor Joyce Ndalichako saying Primary and Secondary School students who drop out of school due to various reasons including truancy, pregnancy and various family challenges will be given the opportunity to return to school in the formal system.

Minister Ndalichako made the statement today while speaking to reporters in Dodoma on the achievements of the education sector over the past 60 years. the document is already prepared well, and it will be out by 13 October 2021 ”

The World Bank has said the decision reflects the Government’s sincere commitment to help girls improve their access to quality education.

The World Bank says more than 120,000 girls drop out of school each year in Tanzania with 6,500 of them either because they are pregnant or having the children.
