Programme Description
The University of Dodoma graduates of the existing programme (Bachelor of Environmental Disaster Management) were consulted online so as to share their opinions and experiences. Selected public and private organizations (regarded as potential employers) were consulted through face-to-face interviews to capture their opinion regarding the qualities, competencies, knowledge and skills needed for graduates they would wish to employ (as indicated in the table after these texts). In addition, several meetings involving instructors in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies of the University of Dodoma were conducted to share experience they had through teaching based on the existing programme. Programme learning outcomes • Understand disaster risk management concepts, principles, and frameworks • Analyse climate change impacts, environmental risks, and sustainable mitigation strategies. • Understand principles, ethics and logistics of humanitarian response • Awareness of national and international policies, laws, and institutions governing disaster risk management • Evaluate disaster risks using qualitative and quantitative methods • Develop and implement disaster preparedness, response, and recovery plans • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other tools for disaster risk mapping and management. • Design, implement, and manage disaster risk management projects, policies, and interventions at different levels • Assess disaster risks and vulnerabilities, and propose evidence-based strategies to manage disaster impacts using advanced analytical tools. • Conduct research using innovative technologies to contribute to the body of knowledge in disaster risk management. • Engage effectively with diverse communities, stakeholders, and organizations to promote inclusive and sustainable disaster risk reduction practices • Anticipate and solve disaster-related challenges through innovative approaches • Demonstrate ethical decision-making, transparency, and accountability in disaster risk management.
