Programme Description
Pharmacy education embraces the search, development, formulation, analysis, storage and distribution of products for maintenance and restoration of good health as well as provision of information and guidance on proper use of medicines. We believe that students should not be viewed as empty vessels to be filled by their teachers. In Contrary, the teaching-learning process should involve and capture the learner’s participation as far as it is possible. Students learn by diverse styles and therefore diverse teaching methods should be used to meet these diverse learning needs. Learning takes place best in an optimum educational environment and climate, which fosters, encourages and inculcates a lifelong learning habit. The pre -requisite Competencies and objectives should be well spelt and structured to achieve the desired learning outcomes. Bachelor of Pharmacy Programme therefore aims to equip the graduate pharmacist with adequate skills to enable him function as an expert in clinical pharmaceutical care, drug discovery and development as well as a researcher in overall pharmaceutical sciences

Special Programme Requirements
333 1. Field Practical Training First year, second semester: Pharmaceutical Botany (BP 124), there will be field attachment for a duration of three weeks, in LUSHOTO-TAFORI, to learn more on medicinal plants from cultivation to harvesting and storage. Therefore, the following special faculty requirements are needed: • Secateurs to cut woody branches • Pair of scissors to cut herbaceous branches • Something to dig up subterranean parts • A vasculum or thick polythene bags • Newspapers • Field-book • Personal protective gears Second year, semester II: Pharmacy Practice II (BP 223), community pharmacy field attachment for a duration of six weeks, faculty requirement – Dispensing coat Third year, semester II: Pharmacy Practice III (BP 324), Hospital pharmacy field attachment for a duration of six weeks, faculty requirement- Dispensing coat 2. Clinical Rotations (Junior and Senior Clinical Rotations) Special faculty requirements are: • Stethoscope • Digital BP machine • Digital thermometer • Tape measure • MUAC tape • Tuning Fork 512 & 214 Hz • Monofilament fibre • Patellar hammer • Stop watch
