DUGA AMCOS association registered in 2012 with registration number TAR 4002 is an association of people (farmers) under the law of cooperatives number 6 of 2013, who work voluntarily to achieve their economic and social needs through business activities owned by together cashew nuts(Korosho) and clearly proven. This association focuses on the values ​​of self-help, personal responsibility, equality and solidarity.
This association is located in Duga district, Mkinga district, Tanga region with the main objective of raising and developing the economy and life of members by increasing income through the production of cashew crops. This association in collaboration with the organization CARE Tanzania and the company Out-Growers Aps are implementing a project to improve the value chain of the cashew crop in five wards of Mkinga district (Mayomboni, Duga, Sigaya, Moa and Mwakijembe) with the funding of DANIDA which will be implemented for a period of four years from July 2021 to June 2025. The aim of this project is to contribute to the integrated economic and sustainable growth in the value chain of the cashew crop in Tanzania through local processing, joint investment and value addition based on environmental protection.

About DUGA AMCOS
members and leaders of Duga AMCOS have already been empowered to enter into a joint venture with the Out Growers Company in the agricultural factory being built to empower themselves more commercially.
The factory being built in Duga Sigaya Village
is expected to spend more than Shs. 400 million until its completion.
The Care organization has enabled the AMCOs of Duga through their sponsors DANIDA Sh. 328 million for building capacity and hiring employees and various uses.
Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Tanga Region, John Henjewele, said next season, the government is planning to get enough inputs that will be given at subsidized prices to farmers.
He said the government has given consent to various organizations to enable farmers to change to make them good producers who get high productivity while advising good care of cashew nuts for farming and even weeding.

Tanzania is among the world’s largest producers of raw cashew nuts and accounts for 75% of the total production in East Africa. More than 80% of Tanzanian cashews are exported as raw cashew nuts to Vietnam and India for processing, before entering the global market. However, when processed only 20% of the cashew mass is extracted and the remainder is treated as waste. CARE, in partnership with Out-Growers, will contribute to eliminating raw material waste and unlock untapped commercial opportunities in the cashew value chain. This will be done by improving the human and infrastructure capacity to locally process quality cashew products in the Mkinga region of Tanzania.
Cashews provide an important and often primary source of income for 250.000 smallholder farmers, in the southern coastal regions, which together account for 80-90% of Tanzania’s marketed cashew crop. The project contributes to SDG 8 by creating green jobs in localising the cashew nut processing and unlocking untapped commercial opportunities in the cashew value chain in Mkinga region.
