The Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania – North Central Diocese. ALMC was founded to be model of faith-based healthcare and to be a center of excellence and an example of the level of quality of care which the church community could provide to the larger Arusha community. The development of this new model was prompted by both the growing needs of a rapidly growing population in the city of Arusha and by the economic challenge of providing sustainable holistic health care in a rapidly changing health care environment in Tanzania. The construction of ALMC began in June 2005 and the hospital opened its doors for service in December 2008.
