The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) is a body corporate established on the 1st July 2005, under the Universities Act 2005 (Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania) with mandate to recognise, approve, register and accredit Universities operating in Tanzania, and local or foreign University level programmes being offered by registered higher education institutions. It also coordinates the proper functioning of all university institutions in Tanzania so as to foster a harmonised higher education system in the country.
Higher learning institutions admit students who meet the approved minimum and specific entry requirements set for each programme as stated in the list of Approved Undergraduate Degree Programmes. Currently there are three recognized entry pathways namely:
- Direct entry scheme
Direct entry scheme will involve all applicants who completed their Advanced Level Secondary Education or equivalent and attain the minimum entry qualifications.TCU Entry pints
- Equivalent qualifications entry scheme
Equivalent qualifications entry scheme will involve holders of Ordinary Diploma or Equivalent Qualifications and attain the minimum entry qualifications.
- Foundation Programme entry scheme
Foundation Certificate pathway will involve graduates of the Open University of Tanzania who have attained a GPA of 3.0. TCU entry points
Northwistanding the eligibility requirement stated in the pathways, Universities may require applicants to posess additional qualifications in order to be considered for admission in some programmes.
